Goya products are used to prepare many traditional recipes from different countries. Today we invite you to know the “Colada Morada” that is part of the Latin gastronomy, especially in Ecuador for the time of the day of the dead. This recipe is a source of many vitamins because of all the ingredients it contains.

  • 1 pinch of aromatic herbs
  • 1 cup of chopped peach
  • 1 cup of chopped pear
  • 1 cup of chopped apple

Preparation

  1. In a large pot, pour the water, cloves, cinnamon, panela and sweet pepper. Boil for 30 minutes. 
  2. Add the orange peel, herbs (lemon balm and lemon verbena) and boil for 20 minutes more. Remove from the heat and strain the water.
  3. In another pot, pour 5 cups of water, the blueberries, blackberries and bring to a boil for 20 minutes. Remove from the heat once more, let it cool and blend the mixture. Strain the result and let stand in a bowl.
  4. Mix one cup of the purple corn flour with one cup of the pineapple liquid (Step 1) until well blended.
  5. In a larger pot, add the blended fruit mixture, the lulo juice, the spiced pineapple liquid (Step 2) and the purple flour. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent sticking, until boiling.
  6. Add the pineapple cubes and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and add the sliced strawberries (and additional fruit). Serve hot or cold, as you prefer!

In Ecuador it is usually accompanied with traditional breads made at the same time of All Saints' Day in the shape of colorful dolls.
